It’s that time of year again, when many of us start to plan our holiday dinners and celebrations. For those hosting, it can mean lots of preparations and costs too! It’s easy to get a little stressed out and lose site of the fun of the celebration. Here are some great ideas to keep your holidays fun for everyone and keep on budget too.
Consider distributing the cooking chores a bit. It’s not hard for your guests to arrive with many of the side dishes. A crock pot can keep the food warm and be placed right on the dining room table. And, things like string bean casserole and mashed potatoes will transport well.
Another fun get together my family has enjoyed is an appetizer potluck. Let everyone bring their favorite appetizers and do the dinner buffet style. Move the chairs from the dining set to the side and set all the dishes out on the dining table. Let your guests serve themselves. It’s really fun to sample a large variety of everyone’s favorites.
If you prefer a more formal sit down dinner, then make it elegant with a few easy tips. If you don’t have enough matching plates, don’t sweat it! Mix up what you have, and then tie it all together with matching colored napkins. If you are having a large crowd, don’t be shy about supplementing your seating by using the kitchen table and chairs set. Or, let the smaller kids have their children’s table to themselves! That is always fun.
One more tip – do you have a lovely floral arrangement for the occasion? Although you may want to display it on the dining room table as the party begins, once you start to serve the food, move it because it will only be in the way. Instead, display your arrangement on the coffee table in the living room or on the entertainment center, where everyone can still enjoy it after the meal is over.
Over all, enjoy the celebration and keep it fun! It’s much more important to take time to visit with friends and family, relax and enjoy your day than stressing about every little thing being perfect. Enjoy!
