It’s been quite a cold winter all across the country! Most of us are very ready for Spring – warmer sunny days, flowers and greenery would all be welcome sights right about now! But Spring isn’t just about the weather outdoors. Spring is a natural time of renewal and growth, and a perfect time to do some serious Spring cleaning and give your home a springy update too!
On the next good Saturday, start in with a thorough cleaning of the family room – this is the time to go the whole nine yards and move the sofa and recliner when you clean the floors, and to also remove the cushions and thoroughly clean your furniture. Grab all the magazines that have stacked up on the coffee table shelf and go ahead and donate all but the newest to your local library, hospital or women’s shelter. Don’t fool yourself that you will go back and clip those recipes or do that craft project – if more than 2 months has gone by, the reality is, its probably not realistic to believe you are going to get around to it! In general, take a good look at the clutter that accumulates over the winter season. Are there too many knick-knacks on top of the entertainment center and end tables? If there are too many items, none of them have a chance to really stand out and look nice as decoration. Choose just a select few and store or donate the rest.
When it comes to your furnishings, spring is a nice time to open up the draperies and let some light into the room. It’s a good time to pack away the throw from the back of the sofa until next season. Consider investing in some new pillows or pillow covers in brighter fabrics to toss on the chairs. They brighten up a room and give it a springtime feel. As a final step to your spring makeover, invest in a couple candles with springtime scents such as honeysuckle or melon. These lighter scents are reminiscent of warmer days, and more appropriate for the Spring season than more wintery cinnamon or hazelnut scents.
